The six-week study involved thirty men who were either obese or overweight. They were divided into two intervention groups: one group ate breakfast before or after their exercise session, while the control group made no lifestyle changes. The researchers discovered that individuals who had fasted overnight were able to utilize more fat during exercise because their insulin levels were lower. This allowed them to use fat from their fat tissue and muscles as fuel, resulting in better insulin response and blood sugar control. Additionally, the muscles of the before-breakfast exercise group showed greater increases in key proteins involved in glucose transport from the bloodstream to the muscles.
